Roll materials: stock, inventory and corrections
1. Track metres, purchase rolls
Film, bubble wrap and tape use metres as the base unit. In the stock detail, enter the nominal length of a full roll, such as 100 m, and a minimum stock level in metres. Receive metres or whole rolls: 5 rolls of 100 m add 500 m to stock. Changing nominal length later does not change previous receipts.
Roll equivalents are a conversion only. 150 m at a nominal length of 100 m is 1.5 roll equivalents; this does not identify individual open rolls or their remaining lengths.
2. Consumption and reordering
Consumption is deducted when packing is completed. Open orders have not yet been deducted, so the balance is not net of reservations. At or below the minimum, stock pages show a reorder notice. No purchase order is sent automatically.
3. Check actual stock
Count all full and partial rolls of the material. Example: the book balance is 120 m; an opened roll is empty, but a full 100 m roll remains. The actual total is 100 m and the shortage is 20 m, not a total stock of zero.
Stock is tracked per material and tenant. Location notes document movements but do not yet create separate location or individual-roll balances.
4. Two ways to handle a discrepancy
Stock adjustment only
For scrap, loss or an unknown cause, post the counted total through inventory and record the reason. Stock is corrected without changing order consumption or weights. Surpluses can also be recorded this way.
Allocate estimated additional consumption
If the shortage is attributable to under-recorded packaging consumption, choose the period and affected completed orders. The preview allocates proportionally: with recorded usage of 30 m and 70 m, a 20 m shortage adds 6 m and 14 m. Confirmation stores additional correction rows and matching stock deductions. Rounding is to 0.001 m while preserving the exact total.
Original records remain unchanged. Corrections are identified as estimates; weight and composition come from the corresponding source usage rows. Order reports change retrospectively. Reports or exports already submitted may require separate correction. A stock discrepancy must not be treated as shipping packaging consumption without a factual basis.
